Marias Platzl in the borough of Au

Welcome to Old Munich. The Au was first mentioned in records in 1340, although the official incorporation into Munich, the capital city and the royal residence, did not take place until 1854.

After its completion in 1839, the church Mariahilf represented the social centre of the district Au. Today, there still is a great deal of bustle on the square in front the church, the Mariahilfplatz. A market is held here every Wednesday and Saturday; and three times a year, Bavarian custom is celebrated at the nostalgic market called “Auer Dult”.

Crossing this historic square, you’ll reach the hotel Marias Platzl. If you’d like to explore “old” Munich, this is the perfect accommodation for you!

Besides the Auer Dult and the weekly markets, there are other very exciting places to explore close by: It takes little more than five minutes to get to the river Isar; and the walk up to the hill Nockherberg starts only a stone’s throw away from here. Right on the other side of the Reichenbach Bridge, there is the borough Glockenbach – the perfect place for a pub tour in the evening. Our suggestion for a winter’s day: A short 15-minute walk brings you to the magical Christmas market in Haidhausen, brimming with festive glow.

Thanks to a good access to public transport, other parts of town can be reached easily from here too. It takes 10 minutes by bus to get to the Marienplatz, which is not far from our flagship hotel. Pay us a visit and dine at the restaurant Pfistermühle. Or how about a cocktail at the Platzl Karree?
