Sophie Gotte: Gold at the 2019 German Hotel Trainee Awards

Sophie Gotte is holding up her gold award of the 2019 German Hotel Trainee Awards

Great prospects for MARIAS PLATZL. Since February, a newly crowned award winner has been managing the new hotel on the Mariahilfplatz. Sophie Gotte has accepted the vacant position (which is also one with a high degree of responsibility) following her work as the Housekeeping Manager at the PLATZL HOTEL. At the 2019 German Hotel Trainee Awards, she prevailed against other promising talents and eventually was able to take the gold award to her new workplace.

Allow us to present: Sophie Gotte

Avid readers of our magazine have already gotten to know Sophie Gotte at the beginning of 2017, a few weeks after starting her duties at the PLATZL HOTEL. In this brief profile, you will learn where the 31 year old worked before her time at the Platzl and why she found her dream industry in the hotel business. Ever since, through her commitment, Sophie has implemented many positive developments in the guest area. In addition, she was able to develop herself personally through the leadership position. That did not escape the decision makers at the Platzl and this motivated Sophie to apply for the talent competition. A good decision!

What is the German Hotel Trainee Award?

In 2019, for the eighth time, the German Hotel Directors Associations and the Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung have given away the popular Trainee Award. And again this year, high quality talent (33 years or younger) from the top hotels in Germany competed against each other. In the final round, Sophie secured the prize with her short presentation on the topic of: “What does the hotel industry need to recruit young talent?“ Her call to make the rigid German educational system more flexible in order to remain attractive in the long term came directly from the heart and that is why it elicited such a great response. Her leadership experience in high-end American and Asian hotels and actively participating in other educational systems opened her eyes to new perspectives.

What will the future bring?

Naturally, this award represents a powerful career spring board, but at the moment Sophie wants to concentrate entirely on her new role at MARIAS PLATZL: “When you take a position at such a young and promising hotel, the possibilities are certainly open. Exceedingly few hotels can offer that!“ She would also really like to take up aspects of her presentation topic and ensure that the PLATZL becomes an even more attractive work place for future generations: “In many cases, special, young employees in the hotel industry are just taking orders, which is very demotivating. Instead of this, in a management role, you should integrate employees into the decision-making process in order to allow and actively foster new ideas.“

So, there is a lot to look forward to with our guests and colleagues in the coming months and years!
