Anja's Platzl tip: Where culture meets enjoyment in the heart of Munich

Where do you go when planning a special evening in Munich?
One of my absolute favourite places in Munich is the Deutsches Theater. I'm always amazed by the variety of shows – from big musicals to special events, there's always something exciting on offer.
The Deutsches Theater is a real classic for many people – is there a particular highlight or experience you associate with it?
I have some very personal memories associated with the Deutsches Theater. Even as a child, I used to go there regularly with my grandmother when it was in a tent in Freimann during the renovation. When the theatre moved back to the city centre, it was a real wow moment – big musicals in the heart of Munich combined with unforgettable evenings with my grandmother.
Do you have a favourite place near the theatre where you like to grab a bite to eat and a drink beforehand?
When I plan an evening at the theatre, I almost always start by booking a table at the Pfistermühle. There, I treat myself to some fine Munich cuisine. My recommendation for visitors is to combine your theatre visit with a leisurely stroll. It takes about 15–20 minutes to walk from the Pfistermühle to the Deutsches Theater.
Do you have any insider tips on how to enjoy the theatre even more?
I have one for choosing seats: in the stalls, the odd-numbered rows from row four onwards are worth booking. These are slightly raised, so you can see much better over the heads of the people in the rows in front of you. From row 19 onwards, every row is raised anyway, so the view is good almost everywhere. However, at the front especially, the odd-numbered rows can make a significant difference.
Would you recommend this experience for yourself, with friends, or as a gift?
It's definitely suitable for any occasion. Whether you go alone, with friends, or give tickets as a gift, an evening of dinner followed by a visit to the theatre is always special. I have given theatre tickets as gifts myself. The Platzl Theatre Enjoyment Package is particularly convenient for guests from out of town, as it includes accommodation at the hotel, dining at the Pfistermühle, and a 20% discount on theatre tickets.
Which performances have you seen there, and which would you like to see?
At the top of my list are classics such as 'The Phantom of the Opera' and 'Beauty and the Beast'. On my personal wish list are productions such as 'The Phantom of the Opera', which I definitely want to see. But that's exactly what makes the Deutsches Theater so exciting for me — there's always something new to discover, and therefore lots of good reasons to come back soon!
